Kayanja Raymond, better known by his stage name Azrael, is a Ugandan music artist en songwriter. Born on August 28th 2000 in Wakiso district of Uganda, Azrael spent his formative years surrounded by his siblings and family. He embarked on his educational journey in Kampala, Uganda, which laid the foundation for his later music career.
Azrael attended Primary Schools, where he completed his Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). His academic pursuits then led him to Secondary Schools, where he earned his Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) for his Ordinary level education. He continued his studies at the same institution, ultimately receiving his Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) after completing his A-level education.
However, it was in the world of music that Azrael truly found his calling. He initially delved into music production in 2020, honing his craft under the guidance of fellow Artists. As he gained experience and expertise in the field, he eventually opened his own story.
Azrael'journey as an artist officially began in 2020 when he first ventured into singing. However, it wasn't until April 28th, 2020, that he released his debut song, titled "Etamilo." This song quickly made waves, climbing to the impressive position of number 3 on the list of top songs of the month in September. This marked the beginning of a promising musical career.
One of Azrael' significant achievements came with the release of his debut album, "Blackculture," in 2020. This album made an immediate impact, debuting at number one on Apple Music and maintaining that position for four consecutive weeks. "Blackculture" has continued to enjoy enduring success, remaining in the top 100 albums in Uganda since its debut in 2020, a testament to its lasting appeal. In November 2022, the album once again claimed the number one spot, solidifying Azrael' status as one of Uganda's top-selling digital artists.
Notably, Azrael' musical prowess extends beyond his own tracks. Before becoming a prominent singer, he established himself as a renowned songwriter. One of his notable contributions in this role includes his work on the hit song "Ondimu" by Joshim Tums.
In December 2022, Azrael inked a significant deal with the Ugandan record label, THE BLACK CULTURE ENTS , which operates in Uganda. This partnership allowed him the creative space to craft his iconic debut album, "Blackculture," which would go on to become one of the most popular albums of 2023.
