Elvis Nyaruri is a Country Music artist, born in Mombasa, Kenya on 1st June 1994 and raised in Nairobi. Nyaruri came from a musical background as his father and grandma were both musicians. Nyaruri's late grandma used to entertain the late President Daniel arap Moi whenever he visited Kisii county. Nyaruri's father is still a Rhumba singer to this day.
Nyaruri was raised by a single mother who always worked hard to ensure both he and his younger brother had a decent upbringing, education and life. Nyaruri went to Carmelvale Catholic school, later joining Malindi High School where his passion for music began. He later on moved to Shimo La Tewa school where he formed a Rap group with a few of his friends, and became more serious about music. Nyaruri was an active member/leader of the music club at the school. He took the responsibility of managing the choir and composing some of their songs out of his love for music. He received three certificates of merit from the National Music Festival. Upon completing High School, Nyaruri decided to go professional with his music. This was without any money or connections, just a dream.
Nyaruri joined Nairobi Aviation School as his mother insisted that he must have further education because she felt music wouldn't pay off. Nyaruri received a diploma in Computerized Clearing and Forwarding. Despite having a diploma, finding a decent job in C&F was challenging but he managed to get a job as an insurance agent. Because of his charming persona and rich voice, Nyaruri was able to thrive in the insurance business, always leading in sales at his company branch. With his earnings, he invested a portion of his monthly commission to work on his first album titled She Is The One, which consisted of 10 songs. The album wasn't professionally recorded but from this experience, he started becoming familiar with people in the industry.
The next step in his journey, he managed to secure a record deal with AI Records, the subsidiary of Universal Music Group where he recorded his debut album titled Gichagi which opened more doors for the Kenyan artist both locally and internationally. He has received applause from superstars like Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia line, Tyler Hubbard of Florida Georgia line, Dj Slim McGraw, Wendy Starland, Kerri Kasem, Reggie Saunders the Vice President Jordan Brand, Stephon Dupree, Dapper live sDan Harlem, CMB Prezzo, Andrew Kibe, Nonini, Them Mushrooms, Eric Dantas, Samidoh, Viola Karuri, and the list goes on.
In June this year, Nyaruri concluded up his contract with AI Records and released an international collaboration called “Last Night” with South African rapper Ngu Fweez, under Ogopa Deejays, as an independent artist. The song has created quite a sensation in the industry as it is something new, a fusion between country music and hip hop, a first for both Kenyan and South African markets.
The team behind the track were Elvis Nyaruri and Ngu Fweez, guitars Marc Van Rosi, production Lucas Bikedo/Ogopa Deejays, management Pius Kasau, and senior council/ business partner George Keith.
Nyaruri is working on his EP titled ZOZA and his music is available on all streaming platforms as Elvis Nyaruri
