Streaming vs Offline listening on AfroCharts

What is Streaming?
Is a way of delivering music without requiring the user to download files from the internet. You can start listening through a device or smart speakers almost immediately. Streaming differs from downloads in that no copy of the music is saved to your hard drive. If you want to hear it again, you can easily stream it again. There is no file to download, just a continuous stream of data that makes the content harder for most users to save the content and distribute it illegally.
What is Offline Listening?
Offline Mode is a feature in a streaming music service that allows you to listen to songs without the need to be connected to the Internet. This technique relies on the utilization of local storage space to cache the necessary audio data.
Frequently asked Questions
Artists:
Does Streaming and downloading have the same value attached to it?
Downloading songs allows users to listen to the song without using data. The users do not own the audio file, they cannot share the audio file and must be in the AfroCharts app to listen to their downloads.
This is a way of protecting the rights of the artist while allowing your content to be listened to by your fans at any time. Therefore even if a song is downloaded and listened to, we still count it as a stream every time it is played. So yes you will get paid for listens that happen after a song was downloaded on our platform.
What is the difference between allowing vs not allow people to download my songs free?
As a content owner, you have the ability to allow your music audio files to be downloaded by freemium users for offline listening. By default, audios files are set to not be downloadable. However, any audio files uploaded on AfroCharts can be downloaded by our Premium users for offline listening even if the content owner has disallowed their audio files download for free users.
As for benefits for you, this allows listeners to listen to your songs anytime even when they don't have the internet. However every offline play is counted as a stream/play for you. So if you are on our monetizing program, you get paid even if the song was played offline.
This method is helpful because it allows the artist to see the listener’s location data which provides a better idea of who listens to your music and where.

Why are Downloaded Songs not appearing in my music files?
Downloaded songs are for listening offline only, no Wi-fi or Data needed. You can find all your downloaded songs under the Library Tab then by clicking on "Downloads" from the list. When you play downloaded songs from our app, you will be supporting your favorite artists because that's how they get paid. By supporting your favorite in this way, will enable them to keep producing the high-quality music you’ve come to enjoy.
